Switching-Cell Arrays - An Alternative Design Approach in Power Conversion

This leads to the need to design and optimize a large number of different devices and their ancillary circuitry and prevents taking advantage from scale economies. This paper proposes a paradigm shift in the design of power converters through the use of a novel configurable device consisting on a matrix arrangement of highly-optimized switching cells at a single voltage class. Each switching cell consists of a controlled switch with antiparallel diode together with a self-powered gate driver. By properly interconnecting the switching cells, the switching cell array (SCA) can be configured as a multilevel active-clamped leg with different number of levels. Thus, the SCA presents adjustable voltage and current ratings, according to the selected configuration. For maximum compactness, the SCA can be conceived to be only configurable by the device manufacturer upon the customer needs. For minimum cost, it can also be conceived to be configurable by the customer, leading to field-configurable SCAs. Organización docente del programa de enseñanzas regladas en lengua inglesa en la EUEE de la Universidad de Sevilla

Una vez conocidos los objetivos que llevaron a la EUEE a implantar su programa de enseñanzas regladas en lengua inglesa, así como las líneas generales del proceso conducente a su implantación, en el presente capítulo abordamos los muchos y variados aspectos de la organización docente del programa, los cuales han quedado agrupados en cuatro apartados principales: tamaño y número de los grupos; la acreditación del nivel de inglés de profesores y alumnos; el proceso de formalización de matrículas para alumnos de nuevo ingreso y para aquéllos que ya están inmersos en el programa, así como el reconocimiento de la actividad en el expediente académico; y, finalmente, aspectos concretos de la organización de las enseñanzas: guías y programas de las asignaturas, bibliografía y textos específicos, clases, tutorías y otras actividades docentes, y exámenes y evaluaciones

Objetivos y acuerdo de implantación del programa de enseñanzas regladas en lengua inglesa en la EUEE de la Universidad de Sevilla

El presente capítulo pretender abordar el planteamiento inicial de la Dirección de la Escuela Universitaria de Estudios Empresariales con objeto de implantar una enseñanza en lengua inglesa en la Diplomatura de Ciencias Empresariales. Asimismo, la introducción de los nuevos Grados en Finanzas y Contabilidad y en Turismo ha propiciado que el planteamiento y la experiencia se extiendan, también, a estas titulaciones. El apoyo del Rectorado de la Universidad de Sevilla a la docencia en inglés mediante el I Plan de Docencia posibilita y hace más atractiva la propuesta de la EUEE al profesorado

Dirección de operaciones en inglés en la Universidad de Sevilla: cuando apenas cambia el idioma

En este capítulo se muestra la experiencia en el programa de docencia en lengua inglesa de una asignatura, Dirección y Gestión de la Producción I, perteneciente a una disciplina, la Dirección de Operaciones (DO), de la que podría decirse que su idioma natural es el inglés. Una breve descripción de la DO y de la asignatura antecede a los apartados que analizarán los diferentes aspectos de la experiencia: los objetivos específicos en relación con la competencia lingüística en inglés de los alumnos; las medidas tomadas para garantizar que el nivel de inglés que se ofrece a los alumnos es correcto; los aspectos metodológicos del curso y las técnicas de evaluación, tanto los coincidentes con los grupos en español como los específicos del grupo en inglés; y, finalmente, unas reflexiones personales sobre los pros y los contras afrontados en un proyecto que considero muy enriquecedor para estudiantes y profesores y del que soy firme defensora

Calcificaciones discales idiopáticas en la infancia: A propósito de un caso

Las calcificaciones discales en la infancia constituyen una rara entidad; frecuentemente son asintomáticas, pero en ocasiones producen síntomas como cervicalgia o dorsalgia. El pronóstico suele ser bueno en casi todos los pacientes. Presentamos el caso de un niño de 11 años de edad, que consultó por dolor en región dorsal, fiebre y una velocidad de sedimentación globular elevada. La radiología nos mostró la presencia de 2 calcificaciones discales en el segmento torácico. Tras una semana de tratamiento conservador, se produce una completa resolución del cuadro clínico, persistiendo las calcificaciones discales.Invertebral disc calcification in childhood is rare. Most frequently are not symptomatic, but occasionally evoke symptoms like neck pain or back pain. The prognosis of nearly all patients is good. We report on a 11-year-old child, who suffered from acute back pain, fever and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rates. The X-Ray revealed two calcified discs in the thoracic region. After one week of conservative treatment, a complete resolution of the symptoms is observed, however the radiologic findings showed the persistence of invertebral disc calcifications

Entorno y sector turístico: percepciones de la dirección hotelera

El sector turístico, al igual que otros sectores económicos, no se ha quedado al margen de la actual crisis económica. El qué hacer frente a esta compleja y difícil coyuntura requiere, entre otros, no sólo conocer las nuevas condiciones del entorno, sino, más aún, saber actuar en relación a las mismas. Un conocer y saber hacer que adquiere connotaciones especiales en el sector turístico, caracterizado, entre otros, por una demanda muy elástica e inestable, una oferta rígida a medio y largo plazo, y un producto intangible e imposible de almacenar. El propósito de esta investigación es explorar la relación entorno- sector turístico. Nos serviremos para ello de uno de los agentes turísticos, tradicionalmente, más relevantes: el sector hotelero. Concretamente, analizaremos las percepciones de sus máximos responsables: la dirección hotelera. Consideramos que, si bien los actuales cambios del entorno están afectando negativamente al desarrollo y supervivencia de muchas entidades, siendo el responsable de la desaparición actual de muchas, debemos encontrar nuevas oportunidades que nos garanticen no sólo la supervivencia sino el crecimiento dentro del mismo.The Tourist Sector, as other economic ones, has not remained to the margin of current economic crisis. In relation to this complex and difficult conjuncture it is essential not only to know the new conditions of the environment, but even more, to be able to operate in the same ones. This knowledge acquires special connotations in the Tourist Sector, characterized, among others, by a very elastic and unstable demand, a rigid offer to half and long term, and a product intangible and impossible to store. This research aims to explore the relationship Environment - Tourist Sector. Specifically, we will analyze the perceptions of the maximums responsible in the hotel industry: the hotel management. We think that, though the recent changes of the environment are concerning negatively the development and survival of many entities, even being, many times, direct responsible of their disappearance, we must find new opportunities that guarantee not only the survival but the growth inside the same one

Elements of the anthropological theory of didactics in the selection of contents in a course of fluid mechanics in engineering, a case study in Spanish universities.

The Anthropological Theory of Didactics has been applied to the field of didactics of mathematics with remarkable success. Fluid Mechanics is a discipline with a strong mathematical background, where mathematics is used for modeling the continuous nature. In addition, the Fluid Mechanics concepts are essential for the future engineer or scientist. For this reason, it is worth thinking whether the content that developed in engineering schools or science faculties are those demanded by the future professionals. The analysis has been done within the context of a case study framed in the Spanish noosphere, more particularly Universities and Companies. In this direction, the objective of this article is to know the institutional distance between the University and society as a demander of technologies based on Fluid Mechanics. To this end, the methodology based on the issuance of a questionnaire to experts focused on aspects such as present and emerging content associated with the Fluid Mechanics of an engineering degree is used. Note that the number of experts selected is reduced so as to consider the study as a sourcing for introducing expert thoughts on the fluid mechanics conception between university and companies. The results highlight the existence of an institutional distance between the University and the Enterprise (as a technology executor) in the conception of contents, thus establishing an area of potential improvement within the noosphere associated with fluid mechanics in Spain.post-print771 K

Diseño de un viaje turístico personalizado

En los últimos tiempos se ha producido un cambio sustancial en las preferencias y el comportamiento de los turistas, pasando de viajes estándar a otras opciones más personalizadas. Actualmente, cuando un turista se desplaza suele buscar múltiples atractivos turísticos, debiendo repartir el tiempo de sus vacaciones entre diversas actividades, considerando diversos criterios para su elección. Estos criterios van a estar en conflicto, ya que entre otros aspectos, las atracciones más importantes normalmente son las más caras, nos encontramos así ante un problema multicriterio. En este trabajo intentamos solucionar el problema que se le plantea a un turista que desea planificar un viaje por una zona determinada, teniendo en cuenta los costes económicos, el tiempo de realización de las actividades, y por supuesto, sus preferencias. Se recogen las preferencias del turista y se incorpora esta información en la formulación del problema multicriterio, para obtener un conjunto de soluciones eficientes (mediante un método metaheurístico basado en Búsqueda Tabú). Finalmente, mediante un proceso interactivo, se ayuda al turista a elegir la solución más adecuada entre el conjunto de soluciones eficientes, obteniendo un itinerario de actividades para realizar cada día en un horario establecido.In the last years a substantial change has taken place in the tourists' preferences and behaviours, going from standard trips to other more personalized options, looking for a wide variety of activities and trying to distribute their time. Then, several objectives will be in conflict, because (among other causes) the most important attractions are usually the most expensive and, in consequence, we face clearly with a multiobjetive problem. In this work we try to solve the problem of a tourist trying to plan a trip for a certain area, taking into account the diverse economic costs, the timing of the different activities to carry out and, of course, his/her particular preferences. We will ask the tourist about his/her preferences and this information will be used in a multiobjective problem formulation, in order to obtain a set of efficient solutions (by means of a metaheuristic method based on Tabu Search). Finally, using an interactive procedure, we will help the decision maker to choose the most preferred solution among this set of efficient choices. With this solution, the tourist will obtain a set of activities for each day and a schedule for them
